As we welcome another new year, I am filled with optimism that 2023 will be a good year for borrowers, employees and their family. Grameen Bank has been working all over Bangladesh since inception to reduce poverty through easy financial access to the rural poor, especially women. The Grameen Bank project started in 1976 as an action research pilot project in "Jobra" village in Chattogram district of Bangladesh. In 1983, the pilot project was transformed into a bank with the aim of alleviating poverty and empowering the marginalized poor in Bangladesh through micro-credit.
The unique feature of Grameen Bank is that no collateral is required to get the credit from the bank. Unlike mainstream commercial banks that bring their clients to their shiny branch premises where the poor are afraid to be trampled, Grameen Bank carries its services to the comfort zone of its clients’ doorsteps. It has inspired the women and the weaker section of the communities to join the Grameen fraternity. Geneva-based Aga Khan Foundation presented Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1989 for designing and operating Grameen Bank housing program for the poor, which helped poor members of Grameen Bank to construct 60,000 housing units by 1989, each costing on an average $ 300.

We shall reflect on the following four principles of Grameen Bank in every sphere of life to make it a prosperous organization through the members of the Center: Discipline, Unity, Courage, Hard Work

We shall improve our quality of life by bringing prosperity to our families.

We shall arrange for safe accommodation. We shall build improved and durable houses at the earliest.

We shall cultivate vegetables throughout the year, meet our own nutrition needs by having plenty of them, and increase income by selling the same.

During the planting season, we shall plant as many seedlings as possible to protect the environment and create our own resources.

We shall plan to keep our families small by having maximum two children. If possible, one will be the priority. We shall ensure all types of vaccinations for our children.

We shall ensure education of all children of the members of the center and shall educate them in technical and higher studies.
